THE SPACE FOR THE EXHIBITION
Today we talked about the space for the exhibition and how we can use it to the best of our advantage. We talked about how there are different ways of branding the exhibition and how there are a range of places to display our work. Since I don't have a final developed idea for what i want my exhibition to include it was interesting hearing how people have displayed things in the past and how they used the space to its advantage.
I understand that someone would have to take the role of main creator of the exhibition and them and perhaps a team plan and brand the space. I think this is something I would like to do because I feel I can design and find solutions to exhibiting work. I think the main thing to keep in mind for the exhibition is that it can either be very busy with lots of work or be more minimal and structured. I feel personally quality over quantity if the most important rule and i think that we made it clear that perhaps if some people work brings the quality of the show down then it might not be included in the show.
I feel this talk helped me be more alert of the space and now I think when I am here in the studio, I will be more observant to what there is to use and where to display.

UNSEEN Project
Incorporating generative art, photography, sound visualisation, sound production, and graphic design in both digital and analogue — culminating in the conceptual branding and promotion of an imagined electronic music event, ‘UNSEEN’. Lissajous curves sit literally centre stage — created using a synthesizer and an analogue oscilloscope, captured using both digital and film cameras; some manipulated, others clean. The work aims to interact and engage, give and take, and provide contemporary, electronic music with a contemporary, visual aesthetic.

particle noise
the sound installation particle noise documents the radiation flow rate of the respective place it is installed by transferring it on an audio level. two geiger counters – one analogue, one digital – measure the level of radiation (α, β, γ) inside the exhibition space. signals from each device trigger sounds of either a sine wave generator or a radio receiver and distribute them in the space via a four-channel sound system. depending on the intervals of radiation recognition the frequency of the sine waves and the panning of the static noise change their bias hence constantly change the atmosphere of sound in the room. the work is yet another example of a work shifting otherwise unnoticable phenomena on a perceivable level allowing invisible radiation signals that occur in nature to become an audible soundtrack of our surrounding terrestrial and extraterrestrial environment.
uni(psycho)acoustic
the sound chamber uni(psycho)acoustic enpands the installation unidisplay (2012) on an audio level. corresponding to the visual elements of the latter, the sound installation concentrates on psychoacoustic phenomena and explores the effects of auditory impressions. the work has been developed with students of the staatliche hochschule für bildende künste städelschule in frankfurt/main within the context of a guest professorship.

For the installation interference room a two-channel composition of sub frequency sounds is transmitted onto the surface of a custom-made water pond via two exciters through variations in air pressure. each sound continuously creates concentric circle waves causing interference patterns when they meet. by means of synchronizing the sound waves with a stroboscope the wave patterns can be made visible on a screen in the exhibition space. depending on the original frequencies induced on the water surface the interference patterns can be either regular or irregular hence creating orderly or rather chaotic visual results that cannot be entirely controlled. in this context the installation can be perceived either as a scientific means of analysis or a resource of meditation, reflecting on natural phenomenona on an almost philosophical scope.
My Attempt
I wanted to try a style similar to Will Scoobie. I illustrated a synthesizer which turned out really well. I tried colour variations and ways of how it could look. I thought it looked good and maybe I could use it later in the project.

I really like his simple outline illustrations. He looks at the form and how the object he is illustrating are made up with shapes. It reminds me very music of a technical or blueprint drawing. I think it can look really good on a large scale perhaps as an artwork on the wall. I really think some simple out lines of objects ca look really great and would work for my project.

I really like this work. It is a really random and random layout. I think it looks really good and reminds me very much of the modern day digital glitch style. I think this could be a great way of showing distortion and randomness in print form. I love this layout and I will take inspiration from this.

My Attempt
I took a few pictures of my guitar and guitar amp which both can distort sound. I thought i could use these pictures to experiment with and create some interesting visuals. I edited the photos slightly by making them black and white to create a similar look to the Martin Senyszak ones. I really liked how they turned out and I love this close up shot style.
Martin Senyszak – Cassette Tape Anatomy
Martin Senyszak – Cassette Tape Anatomy
Photographer Martin Senyszak of Edinburgh, Scotland analyzes the visual structure of the common cassette tape. His simple black and white images break down the tape into its component parts and propose a geometric perspective. I really like this series of pictures because it reminds me of a blueprint. I really like this because it could be a great way for showing the the structure / parts of the object. I feel this would work for my concept / purpose because I want people to understand how sound can be distorted. These pictures I think could really achieve visual message.

Image Distortion
These are some quick glitch art experiments using the notepad and editing the pictures code. The pictures I used are from a photographer called Martin Senyszak. I will explore his work more in detail as images similar to these could work really well as visuals to my project.
Concept For FMP
In my FMP project I want to look into the ways in which audio can be distorted. I find it really interesting how audio can be interrupted and distorted. I will look into things such as radios and how things can effect the frequency to distort the sound. I want to explore how we create music using synthesisers and analogue sound. I find the science and experimental nature of this very interesting and I feel it has very similar approach that designers and artists use to create there work.
I want to explore the science behind this audio distortion. I want to understand how certain sound are created and why the sounds are reacting in the way they do. I want create visuals that represent this as well as create something that will allow people at the exhibition to hopefully enjoy and understand it aswell. I feel the experimental nature of this topic will allow me to be more experimental with my outcomes as I hope to find new and exciting ways of creating work and outcomes.
I will look at machines and hardware such as synthesisers and guitar amps and pedals, that can create these sounds and distort them. But also want to explore more manual ways of distorting, so I can actually find and learn for myself how it works. Then with this knowledge I will the research methods and designers work who perhaps have worked on a similar topic and explore ways of visually representing the sounds. I will look at different ways in showcasing my project. I will look at print, motion/animation as well as more physical and interactive outcomes.
This project is very experimental and it will be lead by my interest into this topic. I feel very excited about this project and I feel that this will drive this project forward. I hope to create something that people will understand and enjoy even if you don't take much interest into art and design. I feel sound is something that all people can feel and it can trigger emotion. Therefore with this project people will allow everyone to take something away from it.
