UNSEEN Project



Incorporating generative art, photography, sound visualisation, sound production, and graphic design in both digital and analogue — culminating in the conceptual branding and promotion of an imagined electronic music event, ‘UNSEEN’. Lissajous curves sit literally centre stage — created using a synthesizer and an analogue oscilloscope, captured using both digital and film cameras; some manipulated, others clean. The work aims to interact and engage, give and take, and provide contemporary, electronic music with a contemporary, visual aesthetic.

particle noise

the sound installation particle noise documents the radiation flow rate of the respective place it is installed by transferring it on an audio level. two geiger counters – one analogue, one digital – measure the level of radiation (α, β, γ) inside the exhibition space. signals from each device trigger sounds of either a sine wave generator or a radio receiver and distribute them in the space via a four-channel sound system. depending on the intervals of radiation recognition the frequency of the sine waves and the panning of the static noise change their bias hence constantly change the atmosphere of sound in the room. the work is yet another example of a work shifting otherwise unnoticable phenomena on a perceivable level allowing invisible radiation signals that occur in nature to become an audible soundtrack of our surrounding terrestrial and extraterrestrial environment.


uni(psycho)acoustic

the sound chamber uni(psycho)acoustic enpands the installation unidisplay (2012) on an audio level. corresponding to the visual elements of the latter, the sound installation concentrates on psychoacoustic phenomena and explores the effects of auditory impressions. the work has been developed with students of the staatliche hochschule für bildende künste städelschule in frankfurt/main within the context of a guest professorship.

For the installation interference room a two-channel composition of sub frequency sounds is transmitted onto the surface of a custom-made water pond via two exciters through variations in air pressure. each sound continuously creates concentric circle waves causing interference patterns when they meet. by means of synchronizing the sound waves with a stroboscope the wave patterns can be made visible on a screen in the exhibition space. depending on the original frequencies induced on the water surface the interference patterns can be either regular or irregular hence creating orderly or rather chaotic visual results that cannot be entirely controlled. in this context the installation can be perceived either as a scientific means of analysis or a resource of meditation, reflecting on natural phenomenona on an almost philosophical scope.

My Attempt

I wanted to try a style similar to Will Scoobie. I illustrated a synthesizer which turned out really well. I tried colour variations and ways of how it could look. I thought it looked good and maybe I could use it later in the project.

Will Scoobie


 Will Scoobie
I really like his simple outline illustrations. He looks at the form and how the object he is illustrating are made up with shapes. It reminds me very music of a technical or blueprint drawing. I think it can look really good on a large scale perhaps as an artwork on the wall. I really think some simple out lines of objects ca look really great and would work for my project.
